My Story

By Paul King30 Years in technologyFounder of ImpactfulSwindon, UK

Eighteen months ago, I set out to solve a problem: organisations struggle to reach young people who want to volunteer, and young people don't know where to start. The result is Impactful, an engagement platform that bridges that gap.

I'm looking for partners who share that mission. Read my article here and go to Impactful website.

For 30 years, I have been building software with a simple belief at the centre of it: technology should be useful to real people.

The best technology disappears into the lives it improves. It does not draw attention to itself. It simply works, quietly making life a little easier.

— Paul King, Enjoy Development

I wrote my first production code on a green-screen terminal, creating a system to process bounced cheques long before the modern internet took shape. Since then, I have built and sold businesses, supported senior leaders with technology strategy, and created software that people genuinely value.

Across every stage of that journey, my focus has remained the same: using technology in practical, effective ways that make a meaningful difference.

What I Believe
Guiding Principles
01Build for people, not metrics

The best technology disappears into the lives it improves. Every product I build starts with people, how they work, what frustrates them, and what would genuinely help.

02Build what matters

Life is too short to build software nobody needs. I focus on work that is useful, purposeful, and worth putting into the world.

03Invest in community

The most meaningful products I have built have grown from genuine community need. Technology matters more when it helps people participate, connect, and contribute.

04Listen before you code

The best solutions rarely begin with code. They begin with understanding, asking the right questions, and staying with the problem long enough to see it clearly.
